Mary’s Hen Do at Launceston Farm

Hen do at Launceston Farm

These lovely ladies had an amazing time on their Hen Do at Launceston Farm so we asked Mary Jane – chief organiser – for her Top Activity Tips.

Explore the Farm!  We had an amazing farm tour with rather dashing farmer, Jimi, Cbeebies star, who threw us all into the back of his Land Rover and set off across the Cranborne Chase in pursuit of rather large bulls…Jimi is a fascinating guy and it definitely added some “depth” to our experience.

Try a “country pursuit”. We spent a hilarious day at Gorcombe Outdoor Activity Centre just five miles down the road battling it out over a Clay Pigeon Shoot which was perfect for us but they offer everything from paint balling to dirt buggies  to archery. The Centre is run by a friend of Jimi’s and we couldn’t have been better looked after.

Head to the beach.  This is an absolute must.  Whether it’s a walk along the South West Coast Path, a sailing trip, water skiing, kayaking, or simply hanging out at the beach soaking up some sun – of which there is plenty in Dorset – you can’t leave Launceston Farm without making the short trip to the coast.  There are some fabulous places to eat from fish and chips at Rick Steins in Sandbanks to The Hive Beach Cafe in Burton Bradstock. We loved The Pig on The Beach at Studland Bay.

Take a walk.  The nicest thing about Launceston Farm is that we could just roll out of the front door and be at the heart of some of the most beautiful countryside we have ever seen.  The peacefulness of the place was enough to make us all feel instantly relaxed.  For those of us who had forgotten our wellies Sarah very kindly kitted us out and sent us off with a vague idea of where to go.  There is masses of walking routes, OS Maps etc at the Farmhouse if you want to get serious. You are guaranteed to find the village pub – just a stone’s throw from the farm – which is perfect for a cosy evening.

Indoor pool and sauna.  As if Launceston Farm wasn’t perfect enough, the recent addition of the 12m pool and sauna simply makes it the ultimate Hen Do retreat.  I am sure this new development will prove incredibly popular with the ladies.
