Dorset is heaven for antique hunters and life-style shopping enthusiasts. The Squash Court Shop & Caféis compact but beautifully appointed and its location at the heart of Deans Court Estate in Wimborne means its very easy to explore the town centre with its Minster, model town and array of independents. The Hambledon Gallery in Blandford is worth a browse if you are in town.

If you have a wet afternoon, make a bee line for the Dorchester Curiosity Centre. Again conveniently centrally located in Dorset’s capital, you can send the kids to the Dinosaur Museum or the Tutankhamun Exhibition and enjoy wandering amongst endless curiosities. Don’t forget the cafe. The cake is amazing. It’s cold in there so wrap up accordingly.

If you’re heading to Salibsury stop in at Fisherton Mill Gallery, the largest independent arts complex in the South West, is just a short stroll from the city centre. The cafe is fantastic too.

If you want to mix retail therapy with a spot of culture and a lot of fun head to Bath for the day (1 hr). With some of the best independent shops and eateries in the South West, iconic landmarks and a good dose of high street desirables, it should be top of your list. For full high street retail, all under cover, head to West Quay in Southampton (50 minutes).
