So we’ve had our first official car free holiday couple in ten years to stay this week. We’ve always been nervous to recommend a stay without wheels – the motorised ones anyway – but over the last ten years, a lot has changed. On-line supermarket deliveries are a major help so you don’t have to cart you food shopping with you. We now have super fast broadband so you stay connected to the outside world during your stay if you need to. However, the most important element of being here is the uninterrupted connection you make to the natural environment. We are being told that we need to spend more time in nature; it makes us happier, boosts our immunity, improves our physical and mental health and inspires creativity. Taking time to walk across the flower strewn fields to the village shop to pick up a home made pasty for lunch, wandering down to the River Tarrant for a paddle after breakfast, taking the dog out from the farm gate for an immersive day spent in nature with nothing but bird song in your ears or even just sitting in the village pub garden with a pint of local brew. It’s very easy to see how you could happily while away a weekend without your car.
To make life even easier, aside to providing our welcome pack of essential goodies for your arrival we can provide heat and eat meals and breakfasts or two course farmhouse suppers delivered hot to your door (with a bit of notice). masses of local walking and cycling routes as well as lending out bikes and if there is anything you have forgotten we are more than happy to help if we can.
To celebrate this obvious success and reducing the carbon footprint of your holiday at the same time, we will be offering any couple staying in The Bothy and Flint 10% off the cost of their stay if they use sustainable methods of transport to get here and during their stay with us. There’s more information about how we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint and be more responsible as a business on our sustainability page.
