September in Dorset and around

The best thing about September in Dorset is that it still feels like Summer.  We have already been blessed with some beautiful days and we are not ready to light the fire just yet…

The largest on-water Boat Show in the UK is happening in Southampton (11th-20th) where you can see 1000’s of boats of all types and sizes and get out on the water and try some out for yourselves.  There’s a display from the Red Arrows on Saturday 12th.  Not enough though to tempt us away from our annual favourite; the Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival (12th-13th) with more than 60 cheese stalls, real ales and ciders.

Lyme Regis ArtsFest (19th-27th)  is running from 19-27 September, featuring a diverse array of artwork and sculpture on the theme of ‘In Transition‘.

Make sure you book a table at Hix Oyster & Fish House if you are planning a trip.

If living history is your thing, head to Corfe Castle (26th-27th) to experience all aspects of a 17th century Civil War encampment, including drills and weaponry displays and a must see dramatic re-enactment ‘The Betrayal’, which portrays the events of 1646 when the castle was finally taken…

The Purbeck Marathon (20th) has been rated in the top 3 marathons in the UK for the last 3 years.  For me, it’s definitely one to watch.
